Elbow pain?

"I HAVE ELBOW PAIN, HELP!"

If the pain is burning and pulling on the OUTSIDE of your elbow, you could have TENNIS ELBOW or RADIAL TUNNEL SYNDROME.  Sometimes they occur together which can make it difficult to distinguish.

If the pain is on the INSIDE of your elbow, that is GOLFERS ELBOW.

"HOW DID I GET THIS, I DIDNT HURT IT OR DO ANYTHING?"

These things often occur due to repetitive motion, things you do all the time.  Common examples include; golfing and tennis of course   how you hold the steering while while driving, how you use electronics (phone, computer) and the position of your wrists/hands, and also positions of sleep (cocking the wrist and holding the pillow tight, or hands curled in under your chin).  Another common cause we see is how we hold our phones at night before sleep, cradling the ever increasing size of phones with our hands turned/bent.  The prolonged position of these daily activities creates tension on the muscles and tendons, creating inflammation and strain.

"HOW DO I FIX IT?"

The typical medical treatment is typically an anti-inflammatory medication and maybe an elbow strap.  For some cases this brace and the combination of medication may be enough to get rid of the problem.  Unfortunately, we often see this approach fail.  With prolonged used of the brace, the muscles around this area can atrophy (shrink, get weaker) and create further problems.  We also try to avoid steroid injection due the many side effects, with the major fear being tendon rupture due to the steroid effect on soft tissue (makes it more brittle and less elastic).  Plus, its crazy painful :

Once we have diagnosed your problems, we lay out a specific treatment plan that often involves the use of myofascial release (think of this as a kind of specialized massage therapy) and a combination of; electrical stimulation (Not a TENS unit), ultrasound, and acupuncture.

We see these things often in our office and have a high success rate in treating them.  If you or anyone you know suffers from these problems, let them know we can help!  Text call 605-373-9090.
