WHAT ARE TYPICAL INJURIES YOU SEE FROM CAR ACCIDENTS?
One of the most common injuries is whiplash, which is a traumatic neck injury caused by a very quick back and forth “snapping” motion of the neck. This typically results in muscle strain, ligament damage, spinal misalignment, and sometimes pinched nerves.
Neck pain is the most common whiplash symptom, along with headaches, muscle spasm, shoulder pain, dizziness, ringing in the ears, and arm pain or tingling.
Other common symptoms following a car accident include; back pain, arm pain (can be from the neck, or often in the forearms from gripping the steering wheel tightly and “absorbing” the impact through them), leg pain, headaches, fogginess, ringing in the ears, and general body/muscle aches.
If left untreated, these injuries can result in chronic recurring problems in the future, including but limited to; pain, loss of range of motion, headaches and accelerated arthritic or degenerative changes.
I'VE HAD AN ACCIDENT AND HAVE SOME OF THESE SYMPTOMS, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Contact our office and set up an initial appointment for evaluation. We will go through the specifics of the accident, your health history, perform an exam, and then decide if any other tests are needed, such as X-Ray or MRI (if you haven’t had them already). If we decide those are in fact needed, we refer you to have them taken at Sanford or Avera. From there, we determine what treatment is necessary and coordinate your treatment plan.

IS THIS COVERED BY CAR INSURANCE?
We cannot provide any legal advice but what we can tell you is that in our office, we usually see that most car accident victims are covered by the Med-Pay provision of car insurance which is used for paying for treatment directly related to car accidents.
